THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Jessica Jones built its first season around one of the sharpest villain concepts in superhero fiction: a man whose power is not strength but control. David Tennant's Kilgrave — charming, petulant, and genuinely terrifying — works because the show understands that trauma and coercion are not metaphors here but the actual subject. Krysten Ritter is exceptional, playing Jones as someone whose cynicism is a survival mechanism rather than a character quirk. The later seasons lose the clarity of that central premise, but the first remains essential. A rare superhero story that earns its darkness.
PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE
Where this fits in the larger story
Jessica Jones belongs to Marvel's wider screen history, outside a single clean continuity unless the record clearly connects it to the MCU. It adapts familiar Marvel characters through its own branch of superhero, fantasy, or action storytelling. Its placement helps viewers understand how this title fits the broader Marvel xVERSE while keeping separate continuities from being blended together.
