Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
January 29, 2025 on Disney+
A reimagined origin story follows a younger Peter Parker as he learns what it means to be Spider-Man -- making mistakes, finding mentors, and figuring out who he is before the world knows his name. The animated Disney+ series draws from classic comic continuity rather than the MCU film timeline, offering a fresh take on the character's early days.
TRAILER
THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is an animated origin series that earns its place in the crowded Spider-Man catalog by committing fully to its own visual identity and period setting. The 1960s aesthetic — both stylistically and in terms of the threats Peter Parker faces — gives the show a distinct register from the MCU films, and the character work in the early episodes is grounded and confident. The season is occasionally slow to develop its larger arc, but it treats its audience as capable of patience. A promising start for an animated Marvel property with more creative latitude than most.
PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE
Where this fits in the larger story
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man sits in the MCU's Phase 5, expanding the connected timeline through a focused character or team story. It connects side stories, alternate perspectives, or character-specific arcs with the larger themes shaping Marvel's current saga. Its placement helps viewers follow how streaming and animated entries broaden the MCU beyond theatrical team-ups while adding context around heroes, worlds, and consequences.
