Ms. Marvel
June 8, 2022 on Disney+
A great student, avid gamer, and voracious fan-fic scribe, Kamala Khan has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. However, she struggles to fit in at home and at school — that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with superpowers, right?

THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Ms. Marvel is Marvel's most visually inventive Disney+ series, using animated graffiti, split-screen, and kinetic motion graphics to capture Kamala Khan's inner life in a way few superhero productions have attempted. Iman Vellani is a star-making turn — warm, funny, and genuinely believable as a teenager navigating fandom, family, and powers she doesn't yet understand. The Jersey City community feels real and lived-in, and the Partition storyline in episodes four and five gives the show unexpected historical and emotional depth. The final act rushes through plot mechanics that deserve more room, but the character foundation is exceptional.

Where this fits in the larger story
Ms Marvel sits in the MCU's Phase 4, introducing Kamala Khan's hero journey into the connected timeline. It connects coming-of-age storytelling, family identity, and community stakes with the larger world shaped by Avengers-era heroes. Its placement helps viewers follow how newer characters expand the MCU beyond its original roster while keeping the focus grounded in personal discovery.
