WandaVision
January 15, 2021 on Disney+
Wanda Maximoff and Vision are living a seemingly perfect suburban life — but cracks keep forming in the illusion. The MCU's first Disney+ series blends classic sitcom homage with a story of grief, power, and identity, and introduces the Scarlet Witch's full mythology into the shared universe.

THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
The MCU's most formally ambitious project — a grief story structured around the evolution of American sitcom history, from I Love Lucy to Modern Family — and the early episodes are genuinely strange in the best way. Elizabeth Olsen's performance carries the whole weight of the experiment, and the series earns its most affecting dramatic moments by rooting the supernatural in recognizable human pain. The final third retreats into a conventional action climax the series didn't need, and Agatha's arc was never as interesting as the writers seemed to think. Still the most formally interesting thing Marvel made in Phase 4.

WandaVision sits in the MCU's Phase 4, expanding the connected timeline through a focused character or team story. It connects side stories, alternate perspectives, or character-specific arcs with the larger themes shaping Marvel's current saga. Its placement helps viewers follow how streaming and animated entries broaden the MCU beyond theatrical team-ups while adding context around heroes, worlds, and consequences.
