Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens

THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

The Force Awakens did exactly what a franchise revival needed to do in 2015: it reestablished the visual and tonal language of the original trilogy and introduced three new leads — Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac — who gave the series a fresh emotional center. J.J. Abrams leaned heavily on structural parallels to A New Hope, and whether that feels like a tribute or a crutch depends on what you were hoping for. What it does well — Han Solo's return, the Starkiller Base stakes, Kylo Ren's conflicted menace — it does with real confidence. A competent, crowd-pleasing handoff that left the trilogy's future deliberately open.

Set three decades after the Empire's defeat, The Force Awakens launches the Sequel Trilogy by introducing new characters like Rey, Finn, and Poe, while reuniting audiences with iconic figures such as Han Solo. It bridges the original saga with the new generation, highlighting the persistent threat of the dark side through Kylo Ren. This connection revitalizes the Star Wars narrative, exploring themes of legacy and conflict in a galaxy still grappling with the aftermath of past battles.
